Best EPL Away Kits for 2026: Arsenal’s Bruised Banana Comeback and Four More Road Shirts

So here’s the thing about away kits. The home shirt has a job. It has to look like the club, it has to look like last year’s shirt, and it has to not make sixty thousand people mad. The away shirt? Nobody’s guarding that door. Designers get to raid the archive, flip colors upside down, and print a bee on it if they feel like it.
And this season they went for it. Five Premier League road shirts that are actually worth wearing on a Tuesday when your team isn’t even playing. A couple are straight from the 80s and 90s, one honors a lamp (stay with me), and one is covered in bees.
Arsenal 26/27 Away Jersey (adidas)
Remember the ‘bruised banana’? The 1991-93 away shirt that looked like a highlighter had a bad night? It’s back, but flipped. Instead of a yellow base, adidas went with Collegiate Navy and ran the famous angular yellow pattern across it, with red trim and a Trefoil logo on a crew-neck collar. Same chaos, dark mode. It topped almost every ranking we read this summer, and honestly, once you see it, it’s hard to argue. The original was a cult classic. This one wants to be one too, and it’s off to a good start.
Ipswich Town 26/27 Away Shirt (Umbro)
Ipswich just showed up and handed in one of the cleanest shirts in the league. Umbro took the club’s 1996-98 away shirt and redid it: a cream base with red and black horizontal lines running across the whole front, a woven crest done in the colors of the original, black shorts, and black socks with a cream turnover. It looks like something you’d find in a vintage shop and pay too much for, except it’s new. Heads-up: this link goes to the club’s own official store in the UK, so check shipping to wherever you are before you get attached.
Manchester United 26/27 Away Jersey (adidas)
United went royal blue, and it works. The design pulls from a 1988 away shirt, with red and white details and a tonal wave pattern running through the fabric. The wave is a nod to the River Irwell, which runs through Manchester. That’s about as poetic as a football shirt gets. It’s a quieter shirt than the Arsenal one, but it doesn’t need to be loud. It’s the kind of blue that looks good with jeans, which is really the only test that matters once you’re out of the stadium.
Aston Villa 26/27 Away Jersey (adidas)
Black shirt, gold logos, and a collar with light blue, claret and yellow on it. From a distance it’s simple. Up close there’s a subtle zig-zag and diamond pattern inspired by the Founding Lamp statue, which marks where the club got started. Yes, a lamp. And yes, it looks great. A black shirt is the easiest away kit to actually wear, and the gold Trefoil keeps it from looking like a referee’s.
Manchester City 26/27 Away Jersey (Puma)
City dropped the sky blue entirely for a black base with pale yellow logos and an embossed worker bee pattern all over it. The worker bee is one of Manchester’s best-known symbols, going back to the city’s industrial days, so this is the club wearing the city on its chest. Reviewers were split on this one, and we get it, it’s subtle. But if you like a shirt with a story you only see when you get close, the bees deliver.
That’s the lineup. Arsenal brought back a legend, Ipswich made the most wearable throwback, United went royal, Villa honored a lamp, and City wore its city. Pick your club or pick your favorite design, nobody’s checking. Want the other half of the set? Our Best EPL Home Kits for 2026 has the home shirts.
